Steel Pans at Trinity Church
Steel Pans at Trinity Church
I recently spent some time in a Steel Pan workshop. I have to say it was really good fun, it doesn’t require an in depth knowledge of music and there was a real sense of enjoyment about working to create this unusual sound. Andrzej the tutor is very patient and in no time at all we managed to make a really pleasant noise.
Lewis who you see below had only been going 3 weeks but was already achieving great things. When I asked him what he enjoyed about them he said “I love the sound of them and the letters on the drum make them easy to play.”

The adults really seemed to enjoy working together and commented that “the drums make an unusual but lovely sound”

The workshops are held on a Wednesday night between 6.15pm and 7.00pm for those aged 8-16 years and between 7.15pm and 8.00pm for those aged 16 and over. There is a charge of £2 for U16’s and £4 for 16+.
The project began with the support of the Local Strategic Partnership and is a resource for the community so if you would like to have a go or you know of a local school or organisation which might be interested in a separate workshop contact Trinity Church on 0151 355 1294 or email laura.orchard@epnbc.gov.uk
